Application and admission

On this page you can find information on how to apply to Konstfack as an exchange student.

The Pandemic may cause actions that will affect university education. We are closely monitoring the guidelines of the Swedish authorities and need to proceed accordingly.
(Currently our education is performed at campus without restriction apart from that you should stay at home if you are ill and experience symtoms).

Student safety is our top priority. Therefore, all incoming exchange students should be prepared for changing guidelines in travel, accommodation and other practicalities.

Please note that being admitted as an exchange student to Konstfack means that you will follow the courses offered at that program for this specific semester. You will not be able to choose freely among all courses nor will you be able to access all the different work shops. Some programs will not offer courses, instead you are expected to work individually on your own project.

Our programmes can only admit exchange students to the Undergraduate level.
There is one exception with Fine Arts. They can also admit to the Graduate level, second semester. As follows:

Ceramics & Glass: Autumn semester during the third year. Please note that you need to have a background in either the ceramics field or the glass field in order to apply, since you will be placed in the third year, if admitted.

Graphic Design & Illustration: Spring semester during second year and Autumn semester during the third year

Industrial Design: Spring semester during the second year and Autumn semester during the third year

Interior Architecture & Furniture Design: Spring semester during second year and Autumn semester during third year

Jewellery and Corpus: Autumn and Spring semester during the second year.

Textiles: Spring semester during second year.

Fine Arts: Autumn and Spring semester during second year, Second semester at the Graduate level. Please note that you have to have a background in Fine Arts to be accepted as an exchange student to the Fine Arts program. If you have another background but your practice is in the field of Fine Arts, please make sure to show that in your portfolio and to explain that in your motivation letter. You also have to be prepared to work independently.

Department of Visual Arts & Sloyd Education, Secondary level: Spring semester during third year. This can be flexible for incoming students.

Upper Secondary level: Autumn semester during second year. This can be flexible for incoming students.

On the two Teacher education programs above it is possible to study courses such as Visual Communication, Spatial Design, Narration and learning, Media, Photography.

The semester dates are generally:

Autumn: End of August until middle of January
Spring: Middle of January until beginning of June.

The exact dates for 2023/2024 are Autumn: August 28, 2023 - January 14, 2024

and Spring: January 15 - June 2, 2023.

Non scheduled time is Christmas week 52.


In order to apply you need to fill out the application form and include the following in one PDF document:

• Letter of motivation (½ a page)

• CV

• Portfolio: 5-10 pages (A4 size) Include pictures, titles, descriptions, and descriptive text for each portfolio piece.
Please note! Do not send larger portfolios than this! In total your application must not exceed 25MB.


Note! for students applying for Industrial Design (Product Design) the portfolio should be in pdf-format and not larger than 15MB. It is good if you can use Adobe Professional, where you can easily change the format of your pictures.

• Transcript of records, translated into English, showing your academic records from your home university

• Some students need to enclose a certificate of their English level too. Please check with the international office below to find out what applies to you.

• Passport copy

In order for your application to be considered, your home university must have sent us the nomination before deadline.


Please note that you will get a confirmation by mail that we have received your complete application for exchange. Make sure you get the confirmation- if you do not then we have not received your application!

Approximately 6-8 weeks after the deadline you will be able to know if you have been admitted or not. If you have been admitted you will receive information from us on how to proceed and what to think of.
