Qualified Art Education for Students with Intellectual Disabilities
For students with intellectual disabilities, the subject of art can play an important role in giving them opportunities to express themselves, explore their creativity, and develop their learning.

The purpose of the research project is to investigate and develop art education for students with intellectual disabilities. The starting point of the project is to analyze the traditions and methods that guide teaching related to materials and tools, and to identify how instruction can be strengthened to provide students with a deeper understanding of the subject of art. By mapping current teaching practices and reflecting on potential development opportunities, the study aims to contribute to a more dynamic and innovative education for this specific student group, while also generating scientific knowledge in a field with clear subject-didactic knowledge gaps.
The project is practice-oriented and consists of meetings where researchers and teachers come together to discuss and actively work through workshops on the topic. These workshops serve to test assignments relevant to the teaching group involved in the study. Details regarding the study’s design and working methods will be developed collaboratively – in dialogue – between teachers and researchers.
