Microhistories

The Microhistories platform explores artistic historiography, developing methods to explore complexity in collaboration with cultural institutions, artists and researchers worldwide.

Reframing the encounter: From repressed colonial pile to a collaborative decolonial counter archive. Cecilia Järdemar and Freddy Tsimba.

The Microhistories platform is concerned with artistic–historiographic practices in our current time of hyperpolitical use of history. In recent decades we have witnessed an increasing instrumentalization of history, whether for ideological purposes or for narrowly scientific and technocratic ends. In contrast with this historiography, artistic research can play a decisive role as a catalyst for other approaches; to bring forth its paradoxes, ambiguities, and complexities.

We explore and develop artistic historiographies in artistic and research projects that resist simplification without pretending to be apolitical or confining itself to uncontroversial topics.

Our aim is to investigate and develop a series of tools and methodologies for a speculative artistic historiography in theory and practice, in partnership with contemporary cultural and heritage institutions and an international network of artists and researchers.
