Design Explorations: Prototypical Strategies for Systemic Change Towards Social and Ecological Sustainability

Design is key in order to drive societal change towards just social and ecological sustainability. Moving beyond the dominating ideas of technical and economical rationality to shift towards just and sustainable transitions, the platform takes position from a place of climate emergency: accepting that climate runaway is a nearing possibility. How do we design and adapt to such circumstances? How can design be used to open up and negotiate systems of power? Through prototyping, the materialisation of things and environments enables engagement and co-exploration of new ways of being in and understanding the world. Central for the platform is an artistic – practice led – transformative research approach that emphasises materiality and form-giving of everyday things as well as the built environment.
