Bachelor’s Programme in Graphic Design and illustration

Tools and contexts for graphic design and illustration are constantly changing and a job in visual communication can take many different forms. The programme at Konstfack therefore prepares you to work creatively with many different kinds of tools and in many different ways. The education moves between graphic design, illustration and moving/interactive images, in digital and analogue publishing formats. In courses and projects, you combine artistic methods with experimental investigation and critical reflection. Just as important as the visual expression is the storytelling and ideas, and how your work relates to society. In tutorials and presentations, you will practise your ability to reflect on and discuss your own and others' work in relation to artistic, ethical and societal aspects.

During the programme, you practice running and implementing different types of projects independently and in collaboration with others. You will work in workshops for screen printing, letterpress printing, letterpress, risograph printing, laser cutting, 3D printing, wood, analogue photography and animation. The combination of digital forward-looking techniques and traditional crafts gives you unique opportunities to develop and experiment in graphic design and illustration.

Through collaborations with external parties such as book publishers or cultural associations, you get to try working in a professional context. The programme is also linked to professional life with the help of guest lecturers, study visits, professional teachers and courses that prepare you for a professional career. In years 2 and 3, there is the possibility of doing exchange studies at one of Konstfack's partner schools.

The aim of the programme is to equip you with the tools and knowledge to be able to contribute to the development of graphic design and illustration. The programme also prepares you for further studies at national and international level.

Language of instruction
Teaching, tutoring, and examinations are mainly conducted in Swedish.

Credits and form of study
180 credits (3 years), full-time, daytime, on campus.

Degree
Degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication, Graphic Design and Illustration.

After graduation
Graduates of the programme work as illustrators, graphic designers, animators, art directors, cartoonists and book designers, for example. Some choose to start their own business, others find employment or continue their studies on a Master's programme.

Entry requirements and selection
General entry requirements for higher education.

The selection is made on artistic grounds and is based on assessment of artistic portfolio, project proposal and interview.

Language test
The undergraduate programs are conducted in Swedish. For applicants with a foreign upper-secondary school education that lack qualifications in Swedish, a TISUS test is required.
