Grafisk formgivning och illustration, 180 hp

In the present day, our lives are lived to a great extent through image and film, and through what we experience on screens. Never before in human history have we been subjected to such a massive flow of images, and people communicate with each other daily via visual media. The role of visual communication has perhaps never been as important as it is at present.

Ishtar Bäcklund Dakhil, Kandidatprogrammet Grafisk formgivning och illustration, graduated in 2019.

The programme is characterised by its combination of two subjects: Graphic Design and Illustration with equal weight and attention devoted to both. The teaching embraces three areas: Graphic Design (including typography), Illustration (including photographic images and graphics) and Moving image (animation, video, web).

What is specific for Konstfack is access to the different workshops, the screen print and graphics workshop (including composing by hand and a printing press), access to computer rooms, photographic studios and a video editing lab. The combination of traditional craftsmanship and digital techniques provides you with a unique platform for your creativity.

The programme mixes theory and practice, with a focus on the students' creative development. Narrative and concepts are just as important as visual expression. You work independently or in groups, with longer projects or short workshop tasks, but always with supervision.

In the first year of the programme you study both Graphic Design and Illustration, from the second year certain options are offered and in the third year you select one of the fields to focus on.

The teaching is firmly grounded in the contemporary world with the help of guest teachers, external lecturers, the professional activities of our own teachers and courses offered in professional development. In the third year there are also opportunities for exchange studies in institutions outside Sweden.
