Banking

Sweden is know for being an almost a cashless society.Credit and debit cards such as VISA, Eurocard, MasterCard and American Express are accepted in most places. 

 It is a good idea to check whether your bank at home has a Swedish banking partner. 

Most international students can open a bank account in Sweden, but the rules differs depending on your nationality and between banks. 

Paying bills

The cheapest way to pay bills is through online banking. Before you arrive, check with your bank at home whether it is possible to pay bills in Sweden using the internet bank. 

Another option is to visit a Forex exchange office, but they charge a fee per bill.

Budget

This is an example of a montly budget for an exchange student. The amounts below are approximate:

- Housing: 8,000 SEK
- Food: 3,500 SEK
- Public transportation: 650 SEK
Total 12,150 SEK

Material fees

Some of the programmes have material fees, you pay per use material or per semester depending on the programmes.

Materials used in course work are usually included.
