Courses within the doctoral education

Konstfack's doctoral education comprises a course component of 45 credits, of which 30 credits are compulsory and 15 credits are elective courses. The remainder, 195 credits, consists of the documented artistic research project.

Compulsory courses

The compulsory courses included in the doctoral education aim to provide an in-depth insight into important theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of artistic research by exploring methods and perspectives in areas such as artistic practice, poetics and writing.

Elective courses

In addition to the compulsory courses, the doctoral programme includes 15 credits of elective courses. The range of elective courses at Konstfack varies over time. The doctoral student can also take relevant courses offered by other universities, as well as individual courses designed in consultation with the supervisor. The main supervisor is the first point of contact for advice and support regarding elective courses.

The documented artistic research project

The documented artistic research project accounts for 195 credits of the doctoral education's 240 credits, which means that most of the doctoral student's day-to-day work takes place within this part of the education.

As stated in the ASP, the artistic result is the central component of the documented artistic research project and may consist of a series of linked works or a more comprehensive work. The works may be produced continuously during the education or as a final production. In relation to the artistic results, a written component must also be produced, designed in a manner appropriate to the research project.
