Beatrice Brovia (Senior Lecturer at Konstfack), Marion Tang (alumni bachelor's Jewellery and Corpus: Ädellab 2025) and Nicolas Cheng (alumni master's Jewellery + Corpus 2010) participate in Coexistencies - the 3rd Lisbon Contemporary Jewellery Biennial; Jewellery and the World's Beauty - International Group Exhibition.
Beatrice Brovia and Nicolas Cheng will also give a lecture as part of the Biennial´s Colloquia on 26 September; Colloquium accompanying the exhibition Coexistences.
Coexistencies explores how we project the future in coexistence and interconnection with the various other worlds parallel to our own — mineral, microbial, vegetable, animal, digital, spiritual, and (artificial) intelligence.
Coexistences invites artists, designers and thinkers of contemporary jewellery to explore territories that go beyond the visible, where matter, spirit and imagination intertwine, and jewellery transforms the human body with the body of the world, becoming an intermediary object that enhances dialogue and new understanding.
The colloquium accompanying the exhibition Coexistences brings together artists, researchers and thinkers from different disciplines to explore the conditions and limits of contemporary coexistence. At a moment when the boundaries between the human and the non-human, between the organic and the digital, between the visible and the invisible are becoming increasingly porous, jewellery emerges as a privileged site of investigation: an object that has always operated at the boundary between body and world, between matter and symbol, between presence and memory.
The colloquia programme is organised into three sessions that approach, from different perspectives, the challenges and possibilities of a world in coexistence: the agency and sensibility of matter; the forms of otherness that resist human categories; and the poetic and critical possibilities of technologies. Each session is an invitation to rethink the relations that constitute us — and to imagine more attentive, more just and more interconnected ways of inhabiting the world.
Organised by PIN — the Portuguese Association for Contemporary Jewellery, in partnership with MUDE — Museu do Design, co-producer of the exhibition and catalogue, Coexistences is the third edition of the Lisbon Contemporary Jewellery Biennial.
