Teres Selberg: "Performative process to public permanence"

This research builds on the work and methods of the organization Dansbana!. Creating public spaces for dance using hands-on, performative participatory methods to engage girls in the planning and activation, the organisation aims to change gender inequalities in public space. Simultaneously, the concept of the historical building typology ‘dansbana’ is updated to meet the needs and wishes of local dance communities and young girls in today’s contemporary world.

Aiming to broaden the spectrum of how to execute practice-based research globally and work together towards the SDGs, this research invites yet another layer of complexity by the initiation of a public space for dance in Bissau, Guinea Bissau. Critical perspectives on Otherness, decoloniality and the notion of belonging will guide the performative participatory process into the development of a site-specific permanent public space for dance.

Teres Selberg is an architect and a senior lecturer in interior architecture at Konstfack. She holds a master from the School of Architecture at KTH, Stockholm and is also educated at KKH, SKH and DOCH in Stockholm, UNSW in Sydney, Esmod in Paris and ISPJAE in Havanna.
