Welcome to a unique exhibition of cross-stitch pieces by Rosanna Corre.
Who is the mermaid princess and what is she longing for? The fantasies of the female protagonists, beauty and calmness is a part of Rosanna Corre’s process. Her work sparks a desire for a more gentle, slow paced world.

Escapism into a world of female protagonists.
We have been looking for art in unusual places. In the practices that carry on in silence. The art that nurtures the self instead of being made to be shared, displayed or consumed. Rosanna Corre introduced her art practice to Rebecca and I, Sara Rad a few years ago. Where she invited us to a more private part of her – a whimsical inner world.
To us she was at first a lovely maintenance personnel, then through the years, small talk turned into longer conversations, and she became a wise friend. Eventually she revealed to us about her cross-stitch works that take months, sometimes years to finish. And with them came the backstories of female protagonists – magical angels, mermaids patiently waiting for love and fairies that protect the forest. The characters reflecting Corre's inner wisdom and outlook on the world.
During a conversation she tells us how her paternal grandmother used to do embroidery on large decorative fans. She learned the different stitches from her when she was a child. Which eventually became a way for her to remember her grandmother.
In initiating this exhibition, we were intrigued by the escapist nature of the motifs. It reminded us of vintage angel bookmarks and stickers. Which made us reminiscent of a simpler time. As two thirds of us, behind the initiative, are about to graduate this June, we wanted to appreciate all the art forms that we have encountered during our time at Konstfack.
