A groundbreaking symposium exploring the role of photography in contemporary Vietnam.

We are thrilled to invite you to Sensing Photography: Vietnam & Vectors of Global Photography, a groundbreaking symposium exploring the role of photography in contemporary Vietnam. Taking place from February 21-22, 2025, at Fulbright University Vietnam, this event brings together internationally renowned scholars, artists, and researchers to critically examine photography’s intersections with history, memory, and global visual cultures. Additional workshops, talks and sharing sessions will be held throughout the week at Sàn Art, Dogma Collection, Noirfoto, and Studio Tùm Lum.
Marking 50 years since the national reunification, Sensing Photography & Vectors of Global Photography reexamines the role of photography in Vietnam's history and global connections. It serves as a springboard for a new era of growth and advancement, making this symposium particularly timely as we reflect on how photography has shaped the country’s past and continues to influence its future.
Organized by Trâm Lương (Fulbright University Vietnam) and Jacqueline Hoàng Nguyễn (Konstfack & KTH Royal Institute of Technology), the symposium showcases significant archives, and highlights alternative photographic practices. Discussions will range from vernacular photography to the impact of generative imaging technologies.
