Martin Gustavsson discusses his ongoing PhD thesis, Faggoty Brushstrokes in Motion, in conversation with researcher and writer Daniel Pedersen, founder of Faethon förlag. The conversation will be held in Swedish.

Martin Gustavsson’s research project revolves around the production of faggoty brushstrokes and their legibility or transparency. In a perceived absence of faggots, their brushstrokes and traces, in Swedish culture Gustavsson started to look for them. This search in a seemingly empty room led to questions around visibility and returns, and also what is lurking in the shadows. The material presented at this first seminar are texts based in the experience of looking and painting. Painting and paintings make a platform from which to examine closer a faggoty history, and aided by Didi Huberman and Ian White attempt to make the brushstrokes and other stains visible.

During the seminar we will discuss how the faggoty brushstrokes look.
