A Discipline is Not My Daddy – matt lambert

Konstfack doctoral student matt lambert is the inaugural speaker presenting "A Discipline is Not My Daddy," for Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle's, "Schmuck Halle" lecture series. Supported by the department of Plastic Arts and Jewellery who will host lambert as a guest teacher.

An internationally renowned emerging polydisciplinamourous artists, matt lambert will be in dialogue with Prof. Dr.Yuka Oyama as they meet on a shoal. Animating lamberts method of cruising with no formal beginning or ending the conversation will pull on a few threads of lamberts seemingly chaotic and rapidly moving practice. Through short readings, images, video and conversation a possible cartography of practice can emerge. The work becomes material to make the work. Connecting but not limited to: dutch still life, disco balls, saliva, the life philosophy of not saying “no”, Whitney Huston, Greek mythology, Rolls Royce’s, bondage gear, lasers, Steel Titans, Duchamp, American sports law, rug restoration, military medical equipment and a guy named Mick who sold it to them after each driving 3 hours to meet in a McDonald's parking lot.

matt lamberts practice is based in polydisciplinamory, entangling making, writing, performing, curating, and collaborating, decentering disciplinary specificity. lambert approaches craft as something to look with to see land, labor, extraction, power, use, waste and abuse. Using a method of cruising which lambert developed in their PhD research, the allowance for desire of marginalized bodies becomes central within institutions. Claiming joy and pleasure as crucial to build more inclusive systems for existence.

lambert is currently a doctoral student at Konstfack in Stockholm (SWE). They hold an MA in Critical and Historical Craft Theory from Warren Wilson College (US) an MFA from Cranbrook (US) as well as degrees in psychology and cultural studies. They exhibit work internationally and are in the permanent collections of The MAD Museum (US), The Huston MFA (US) The Havgapet Collection (NO) and Homografiska (SWE). lambert was a curatorial fellow at Center for Craft (U.S) and a research fellow at Australia National University. They have actively contributed writing to numerous international publications.
