Artistic practice and the question of technicity

Katji Lindberg will present a chapter from her forthcoming thesis, where three different perspectives of technology in relation to artistic practice are presented: Derrida with the concept of originary technicity, Verbeek with the idea of technology as a relation and Katherine N. Hayles by embodiment theory.

Katji Lindberg about her text:
"Thinkers like Walter Benjamin and Rosalind Krauss are often cited when it comes to questions of medialization and art. Another theoretical path is offered by philosophers of technology, such as Jacques Derrida, Bernard Stiegler and Peter-Paul Verbeek (2005). In their respective writings, they show that no media is neutral and that this discussion is heavily challenged by dichotomies such as nature-culture, body-mind, inner-outer and artificial-natural. How does this affect our understanding of artistic practice, technical know-how and medialization? How can we frame technicity in relation to artistic practice?"

The seminar will be held in Swedish.
