Konstfack Writers: Creative and Artistic Writing, 30 credits, (starts autumn semester 2025)

Konstfack Writers is an advanced level course in creative writing. The focus is on writing as a literary and artistic practice. The course is aimed at those who want to deepen and develop their writing as a craft and as an artistic practice, as well as pursuing a longer writing project.

Responsible Professor: Mara Lee

Konstfack Writers is a course in creative writing where we approach and teach literature from the perspective of the author:  it is the writing practice that is at the center. In this course, you will  deepen your knowledge of literary writing in a program where all teachers are professional writers; poets, novelists and in other genres as well.  The course is aimed at applicants who already have a writing practice (in fiction, art, theater, choreography, opera, screenwriting, journalism, etc.) and who want to deepen their knowledge in dialogue with other students who write and with recognized, professional writers. As a participant in the course, you can write in either English, Swedish, Danish or Norwegian. In the course, we meet each student where they are in their writing, and our goal is to give each student the tools needed to develop artistically and literarily.

The course is run at half-time, 50%. The group meets regularly during intensive workshop weeks that take place 7-8 times during the academic year, when the course participants meet for text discussions, guest lectures with authors, seminars, tutoring in prose and poetry, and a craft class where we immerse ourselves in the craft. Between the workshop weeks, we also have process days where we discuss everyone's projects in full class. As a course participant, you will also receive personal text guidance from a tutor who reads your project in its entirety. Students are expected to have worked on individual artistic projects before and will work independently on their writing projects and preparations between workshop weeks.

Our teachers have extensive experience in teaching creative writing, literary composition, and fine arts. We have work experience from the most renowned writing schools in Sweden and Scandinavia, including Biskops-Arnö, Forfatterskolen in Copenhagen and Literary composition at Valand Academy, Gothenburg.

The course also aims to provide knowledge in artistic research and writing pedagogy.
