Deputy Head of Department and Senior Lecture in Design History and -Theory at the Department of Visual Arts and Sloyd Education.

Maja Willén holds a PhD in Art History from Stockholm University. Her main research interest is contemporary housing and dwelling ideals and practices from an everyday life perspective.

Willén has published texts on the breakthrough of open plan designed home in the early Swedish 21st century, on the modern reuse of fin the siècle housing, on the use and construction of history in contemporary kitchen catalogues and on how the staying at home situation of the pandemic was (re)choreographing the home, materially, socially, and spatially.

She is now working on a project on how the visibility in contemporary housing architecture is affecting the feeling of privacy and welfare in everyday life. She is also the co-initiator of a new Nordic research network, Network of Urban Interiors, hosted by Konstfack.
