Parasto Backman awarded by Svensk Bokkonst 2020
1 November 2021
The book "De kommer att drunkna i sina mödrars tårar", designed by Parasto Backman, Senior Lecturer at Konstfack, has been selected by Svensk Bokkonst (Swedish Book Art Association) as one of 25 "exemplary produced" books during 2020.

The jurys motivation:
"An impressive publication created for a theatrical performance. The book is characterized by perceptive design with shifting, falling color scale over the surfaces and generous typography. In a fantastic way, theater, rooms and memories are connected, and the book gives life to another room for dialogue and reflection in addition to the experience from the theater performance."
The books whole title is "De kommer att drunkna i sina mödrars tårar – publikation till teaterföreställningen efter en roman av Johannes Anyuru" (They will drown in their mothers' tears - publication for the theater performance after a novel by Johannes Anyuru), and it is written by Farnaz Arbabi, Evin Ismail, Wanda Bendjelloul and Nioosha Shams.
The awarded 25 books are on display at Kungliga biblioteket (National Library of Sweden) until 17 December, and then they tour within and outside Sweden for a year. Also, they represent Sweden in the international book competition "Die Schönsten Bücher aus aller Welt", which exhibits every year at the fairs in Leipzig and Frankfurt.
The purpose of Svensk Bokkonst is to stimulate and inspire quality in the production of books. Each year, a jury selects 25 books that set a good example for the industry.
