Emeka Ogboh (b. 1977) is a Nigerian artist based between Lagos and Berlin. Ogboh established an international practice with his soundscape installations of life in Lagos. He graduated with a degree in graphic design from University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2001, but became interested in sound art in 2008 during the Fayoum Winter Academy in Egypt in a course led by Austrian multimedia artist Harald Scherz. Ogboh began to consider the interaction of sounds in Lagos as compositions rather than individual voices, with layered registers rather than chaotic noise. Ogboh began experimenting with field recordings of, for example, the danfo share taxi system in Lagos, which evolved into multi-media installations that eventually incorporated food.
Ogboh will speak about how his artistic practice connects to places through hearing and taste. His sonic installations and gastronomic works explore the translation of private, public, collective memories and histories. He is interested in their transformation and encoding into sound and food and his talk will touch on these provoke the viewer/listener to consider existential relationships, frame our understanding of the world, and provide a context in which to ask critical questions on immigration, globalization, and post-colonialism.
Ogboh's work has been presented at the Museum Tinguely, Basel (2023), Humboldt Forum, Berlin (2021), the Friche La Belle de Mai, Marseille (2020), The Power Plant, Toronto (2018), and the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, Washington DC (2016), among others. He has participated in numerous international exhibitions including the 56th Venice Biennale (2015), documenta 14 in Athens and Kassel (2014), and Skulptur Projekte Münster (2017). He is also the co-founder of the Video Art Network Lagos. In 2016, Ogboh was awarded the Prize of the Bottcherstraße in Bremen. In 2018, he was a finalist in the prestigious Hugo Boss prize, and in 2019, he was awarded the Sharjah Biennial 14 Prize (with Otobong Nkanga).

- Depeche Mode (1990)
In its inaugural season, World in My Eyes: An Artist Lecture Series presents Emeka Ogboh, Yazan Khalili, Nairy Baghramian, and in 2024 Pope.L. Each artist contributes to both the discursive and formal hybridity of contemporary art at a moment of acute geopolitical volatility and increasing polarization.
Launched in 2023, World in My Eyes is a series of artist talks in Stockholm presented through a collaboration between Konstfack, Moderna Museet, and the Royal Institute of Art, and hosted in 2023-2024 by Mötesplats Mariatorget. Its title drawn from the eponymous 1990s electronic music hit by English band Depeche Mode, the series aims to present artistic perspectives from a wide range of media that are changing the relationship between material processes and socio-political imagination.
