Since 2017, Konstfack has had a Deputy Vice-Chancellor with overall responsibility for strategic research matters. As the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor for research, doctoral education and collaboration, Magnus Bärtås, prepares to step down at the end of the year, Konstfack’s teaching staff, students and trade unions have had the opportunity to nominate candidates. The nomination process took place between 7 and 16 September.

Following the nomination process and interviews with five nominated candidates, the Vice-Chancellor has decided to appoint Simon Ceder as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor for research, doctoral education and collaboration. The role is a 50% position and runs from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2029.

Simon Ceder is an Associate Professor and a Senior Lecturer in Education Studies in Konstfack’s teacher education programme for visual arts and crafts. He has a background in teaching and completed his PhD at Lund University with a thesis in philosophy of education. He has extensive research experience, both through his own research on topics including museums and sexuality education, and through supervising and examining a wide range of doctoral projects.

Congratulations, Simon! What are you most looking forward to in your new role, and what do you see as the greatest strengths and the main challenges for the research carried out at Konstfack?
“This is a great opportunity! I look forward to fruitful collaborations with Konstfack’s knowledgeable staff, and especially to working closely with the research leaders. It will be interesting to develop productive formats for meetings and exchanges, bringing people together, and creating synergies around the excellent work already underway, from doctoral education to ongoing research projects. It will be rewarding to build on existing strengths but also to look ahead and consider where we want to go next.”
