Newly graduated student receives scholarship from the Anna-Lisa Thomson Foundation in Memory

Congratulations to Dimitra Konstantinidi, a recent graduate from the CRAFT! – Textiles master's programme.

The degree project "Mother's Hug, 5+1 Stories Spoken through the Caryatids", 2026

In her degree project, she examines examines contemporary social crises through the Caryatids, the female pillars that support the Acropolis and serve as symbolic portraits of everyday people who are constantly lost in the chaos. The good news is that the displaced Caryatid has now returned, and the façade of the Erechtheion is once again restored.

The foundation motivates the choice of Dimitra Konstantinidi as follows:
"For a spatially bold and intrusive textile installation that, based on the form of the ancient column, weaves together public, private and universal human history. The proud caryatids of the Acropolis have roots that stretch back to what is usually described as the cradle of Western civilization, but here they are given a renewed and dual function as observers of a bustling, ever-changing time and reality. The six white textile columns that are the first thing a viewer encounters contain an immediately overwhelming hand-embroidered interior that joyfully points to both challenges and hope. A great story!"

"The Anna-Lisa Thomson Foundation in Memory" was established in 1952 after the passing of the artist Anna-Lisa Thomson. The foundation's most important task is to award scholarships to female artists in and for their education at master's level at the country's art academies. The scholarship amount for 2026 is 110,000 SEK per artist.

There will be a group exhibition with all scholarship holders at Uppsala Art Museum from 7 November 2026 to 24 January 2026. The scholarship award ceremony will take place in connection with the opening of the exhibition.
