Nationalmuseum buys degree project

Ludvig Hyrefelt's degree project from the bachelor's programme Ceramics and Glass in 2025 is purchased by the Nationalmuseum. The work consists of 400 cast and glazed cubes in stoneware on a surface measuring almost 3 square meters.

The work "n(n-1)/2" (2025)

This is how Ludvig describes the work:
"On the wall, there are 400 bodies. Each one equidistant from its neighbour. Along their edges lines run; straight strokes and fragments of circles combine into a winding thread. But between the bodies, there is empty space. It is here that a relationship emerges, where two bodies meet. On the wall, there are 400 bodies. Each one connected to the others. On the wall, there are 79,800 relationships."

The Nationalmuseum's motivation for the acquisition:
"Hyrefelt's art is about how shapes, materials and colours relate to each other in both rational and irrational ways. A deep interest in geometry, time and space forms the basis of his artistic creation, which often revolves around repetitions of various kinds. Natural science recurs in his glazes (chemistry) and precise forms (mathematics). The work is built up of modules that allow it to grow in all directions."

Ludvig Hyrefelt is currently a student at the master's programme CRAFT - Ceramics and Glass, year 1, and has previously exhibited in galleries and been awarded scholarships.
