Centre for Analogue Histories, Practices and Futures in Photography and Publishing – Professor Cecilia Grönberg launches a new centre at Konstfack

6 November 2026

An experimental space dedicated to analogue photography and publishing, approached from historical, material and contemporary artistic perspectives.

Although photography – both as a technology and as an image-making practice – has been declared dead many times, it continues to hold a powerful grip on us. Today, it is once again at the centre of a series of transformative changes, this time challenged by computational photography and image synthesis. This, however, also offers us an opportunity to think about the analogue in new ways.

Centre for Analogue Histories, Practices and Futures in Photography and Publishing will focus on the analogue in silver-based photography, but also on photography in print and analogue publishing. A key part of the project will involve jointly building a material library connected to the places, objects and practices of analogue photography. At the same time, we will explore and practise analogue publishing as a way of both organising and creating relationships. Engaging with the analogue means making other temporalities, other materialities and, not least, other places possible.

Questions about how we remember, how we shape shared histories, what is written in and what is written out, and what we need to carry forward from those who came before us in order to better support those who come after us – these are some of the questions that will inform the project. What possibilities are there, for example, for what might be called ‘analogue resistance’? And what might such resistance mean in the latter half of the 2020s?

Centre for Analogue Histories, Practices and Futures in Photography and Publishing is initiated by Cecilia Grönberg, Professor at the Department of Fine Art at Konstfack, and is being developed in collaboration with Jonas (J) Magnusson, writer, researcher and editor-in-chief of OEI, with financial support from the Hasselblad Foundation.
