8.5 million to Konstfack from the Swedish Research Council

Konstfack has been granted two of a total of seven project grant on an artistic basis from the Swedish Research Council, amounting to approximately SEK 8.5 million. Congratulations to Mara Lee and Lina Selander for their project grant, and to Sebastian Gatz for a postdoctoral fellowship!

Mara Lee is the project leader and Lina Selander co-applicant (both professors of Fine Art) for Another After: The Essay at the End of Time, a transdisciplinary research project in literary composition and visual arts that explores poetic and climate-related temporalities and the essay as form and method. Climate-related timeframes challenge human imagination by transgressing linearity, progression, and narrative capacity. This project addresses this challenge by examining the lyric, artistic film- and collaborative essay as multidisciplinary tools for analyzing and communicating climate-change temporalities.

Architect and PhD Sebastian Gatz’s postdoctoral project, From Control to Care: A Transdisciplinary Exploration of Nonhuman and Digital Agencies in Architecture and Design Using AI Agents, explores how AI agents—complex networks of large language models—can collaborate with biological materials such as plants, fungi, and algae in architecture and design. Through a reworked, non-hierarchical version of the DIKW pyramid (Data-Information-Knowledge-Wisdom), Gatz aims to develop more sustainable and “more-than-human” ways of creating. The research is conducted mainly at CITA (Centre for Information Technology and Architecture) at the Royal Danish Academy, and investigates how AI can reinterpret biological data and inspire new forms of creativity and responsibility toward nature.
