Amica Sundström has passed away
14 August 2024
On 23 July, Amica Sundström passed on after a period of illness. Between 2000 and 2018, she was a highly valued colleague and teacher/lecturer in textiles at the Department of Crafts.
Amica has been described as very passionate about textiles because her knowledge in the field, which she happily shared, was immense. There were many who had the privilege of having in her a particularly deep source of knowledge to draw from, colleagues and students at Konstfack for a long time, from 2000 to 2018.
Here, she made it possible through weaving techniques for the school's history to be told on a giant drapery that today adorns our cafe and built up both a knitting and tufting workshop, which had a significant role in technology teaching and technology development at Konstfack's textile programmes.
Amica Sundström's interest in textiles started early and after textile high school she went to weaving training at folk high school before moving on to the School of Textiles in Borås. She then took a degree in archeology and her most recent work was as 1st antiquarian in charge of the textile collection at the Swedish History Museum. Amica was active in the textile field for a long time and in many different ways. Among other things, she participated in the founding of the company Historical Textiles, was one of the initiators and co-founders of the Swedish Weaving Academy, she lectured, also internationally, wrote articles and books about weaving.
With her deep knowledge, her network of contacts and great commitment, she has generously shared and worked for us to meet, share knowledge, ideas and laughter. To continue with this, she started as a last initiative "Amica's Memorial Fund for Textile Crafts" which will carry her cause forward.
Amica Sundström became 51 years old.
