Luis Berríos-Negrón – congratulations on the successful defence!
16 September 2020
On 15 September, Luis Berríos-Negrón successfully defended his doctoral thesis, Breathtaking Greenhouse Parastructures, at the public disputation with opponent Professor Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung (Weißensee Kunst-Hochschule).
Luis is the first doctoral student to complete his PhD on the KTD programme, a collaborative transdisciplinary PhD programme established in 2015 between Konstfack and The Royal Institute of Technology, KTH.

In his abstract, Luis describes Breathtaking Greenhouse Parastructures as a "doctoral work that supplements the unfinished modern opus The Arcades Project [Das Passagen-Werk (Mit Bindestrich und Werk mit Capital W)]. The supplement takes the form of a sculptural, historical, and technological deposition of 'greenhouse' that presently oscillates between a past-background and future-foreground to Walter Benjamin's 'theatrical' handling of the Parisian arcades"
The thesis was unanimously approved by the examination board, which consisted of Professors Martín Ávila (Konstfack), Marcia Cavalcante (Södertörns högskola), Sabine Höhler (Kungliga Tekniska högskolan, KTH), Nina Möntmann (Univ. zu Köln), and Ulrich Schurr (Jülich Forschungszentrum)
Congratulations to Luis Berríos-Negrón, not only on the successful defence of his dissertation, but also on the production of a doctoral thesis which, through its rigour and integrity, represents a significant contribution to new knowledge in the field.
