Frida Hållander, PhD and researcher at Konstfack, will conduct a workshop at Röhsska Museum with master’s students from the Department of Craft at HDK-Valand, University of Gothenburg.
The workshop is part of the VR-funded research project Textila arv / Textile Heritage—Artistic Research on Textile in relation to Heritage, Culture, Community.
During the workshop, participants will unbox and explore textiles from the museum’s collections. We will examine materials in the textile collection, as well as the different collectors and figures who, in various ways, contributed to shaping the collection, including Wilhelm Röhss (1796–1858), Thorild Wulff (1877–1977), and Vivi Sylwan (1870–1961).
Using the textile objects as starting points for questions about history, context, and materiality, we will collectively explore different narratives embedded within the textile collection. Through close engagement with the objects and exploration of the ethical dilemmas they raise, we will, through a collaborative, reimagining, and responsive process, discuss these dilemmas and fill gaps in the lost stories.
