Interior Architecture and Furniture Design last year's students at Konstfack in collaboration with Mossutställningar presents Clay City – An exploration of clay. Design proposals as a way of rethinking our relationship with earth, both as a material and a ground to build upon. Clay is a material drawn from the ground beneath us. Through material experimentation in this project clay is reimagined as a contemporary design material.

This exhibition stems from the idea that spaces, interiors, and furniture can be shaped from the raw material beneath our feet - clay. Working both with locally sourced earth from Årsta and fine clay from Cebex, the design process explores how material, place, and society are connected.

Investigating the materiality through this lens has resulted in experimentation in how clay is processed and transformed — altering its form, texture, and spatial presence. The work examines not only how clay performs physically, but how it is perceived and experienced within contemporary environments. We have aimed to challenge dominant material hierarchies and whether clay, often associated with the primitive or the past, can be reimagined as a desirable material within a contemporary Western context.
