New book: Lära om fotografi

Henrik Andersson presents the book "Lära om fotografi" (Relearning Photography), an anthology of texts connected to an independent course in the "History of photography and video art" offered at the Department of Fine Art. Also participating is Michele Masucci, who contributes to the anthology with a text on Ariella Aïsha Azoulay and photographic theory. Henrik Andersson is the editor of the book.

"Lära om fotografi" explores a dynamic within photography that reveals itself through conflicts and contradictions. Rather than defining the properties of photography, it seeks to answer questions about our relationship to it. Instead of trying to determine the boundaries of photography or claiming ownership of photography as an idea, the mix of texts in this book searches for a new critique of photography. How can critical distance become a tool for understanding photography when the technology itself can be said to rely on optical separation from the world?

The texts originate from lectures on the history of photography. Lära om fotografi therefore has a pedagogical dimension as knowledge transmission, but the book also contains an ambition to renegotiate or relearn imagined positions within photography.
