Emet Brulin: "The Thieving Text and the Elusive Object, or: Notes on Method"
The art object and the artistic text. What are the relations between the two? By revisiting exhibitions by Anselm Kiefer and Laura Lamiel and a work by Kåre Aleksander Grundvåg, this seminar will ask questions about how the text writes over the object – or not – through an auto-examination of my own bêtise (stupidity, fårskallighet). As such, it is a seminar on method. We will draw on French author Raymond Roussel and philosopher Gilles Deleuze to examine how a method using difference in incongruent elements can produce the new.
Emet Brulin is a freelance writer, a contributing editor to the Swedish Art Journal Paletten, and writes critique for the newspaper ;Expressen and the Nordic Journal of Contemporary Art Kunstkritikk. His educational background includes continental philosophy, international political theory, and postcolonial studies. He has specialised in the work of French philosopher Gilles Deleuze and is particularly interested in the problem of method in philosophy and artistic practices. Recently, he has written essays on art and aesthetics in Dagens Nyheter and ;Svenska Dagbladet.
