Departing from the understanding that many refugees and displaced individuals remain in temporary camps for much longer than anticipated—an average of 20 years for refugees and 10 years for displaced persons—the students have tackled the challenges of circular design and social sustainability in these prolonged circumstances.

Through understanding the materials potential & limitations and the specific contextual conditions of 5 different geo-localities, the students have explored ways of not only enhancing the shelter experience in the present, but also consider how these materials can continue to benefit and empower communities in their journey towards stability and permanent homes.
