Shabnam Faraee creates patterns, illustrations and graphic design at Studio Shabnam, and teaches illustration at Nyckelviksskolan.

Her main focus since 2015 has been asserting the role of craftsmanship in the digital era. Shabnam views craftsmanship both as a modality for her own presence and for slow production and storytelling. Documenting the work process is an important part of her motivation to spread and preserve knowledge. Making patterns for her has also been a way of depicting the travel of ornament, people and culture across borders and throughout history.

Shabnam has a MFA in Industrial Design from Tehran University of Art and a MFA in Graphic Design and Illustration from Konstfack in Stockholm. She was born in Kurdistan, grew up in Tehran and has lived in Stockholm since 2002.

Her work is represented in the Nationalmuseum's collection in Stockholm.
