"DESIGN AND EMPATHY FOR ALL FORMS OF LIFE"

In this research seminar, hosted by Industrial Design / Design Ecologies, Katja Pettersson and Carl-Johan Vesterlund will discuss their current research in relation to the Ecoliteracy principle ‘Developing Empathy for all Forms of life’. Design Ecoliteracy is the ability to understand the natural systems that make life on earth possible in relation to design practice. The Ecoliteracy principles are central to the Master's programme Design Ecologies as well as the tentative research platform Design Explorations.

The seminar will be moderated by Loove Broms.

CARL-JOHAN VESTERLUND: Emerging Coastal Ecologies
I will talk about explorative design of coastal socio-ecological living environments departing from a multispecies perspective – a central research theme in my ongoing PhD project and teaching.

KATJA PETTERSSON
In my upcoming exhibition, the visitor will meet large-scale watercolors and sculptures where I examine culture/nature with craft and tech techniques. Color compositions and fragmented forms of life are reflected in each other in a dream-like state. An exhibition that touches on memories, energies, and the intangible that we call nature.
