Konstfack Common Seminar: Reframing the Encounter

The seminar will be a discussion between artists Freddy Tsimba and Cecilia Järdemar and curator Jonathan Habib Engquist around the ongoing transnational and interdisciplinary artistic research project, Reframing the Encounter, funded by Vetenskapsrådet.

The project explores how a material part of Sweden’s colonial history – materials collected during the Swedish missionary project in Congo DR – can support contemporary conversations and practices of recovery from colonial epistemicide.

By developing a participatory and critical practice based on intercultural collaboration and artistic research methods, the project explores how new encounters with the erased past found in Swedish archives can contribute to new imagined futures in the Congo.
