Opening on 4 September, the 11th edition of GIBCA will include a new work by Lisa Tan, Professor of Art at Konstfack, developed in the context of The Ghost Ship and the Sea Change, curated by Lisa Rosendahl.
What do we bring home? A bag of groceries, a book from the library, moisture from a wet umbrella, a friend? What else makes it home with us? Perhaps an idea, a new word, or the affects of unpleasant encounter.
In a new work titled Little Petra, Lisa Tan displays a specific armchair that for her became an unexpected carrier for the questions above. Prompted by an incident in a Swedish design store, the artist reflects on objects of desire and belonging, as well as the privilege to exist in a home, which not only provides shelter but also the possibility of rest.

The eleventh edition of the Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art is conceived in response to the 400-year anniversary of the founding of the city of Gothenburg. The Ghost Ship and the Sea Change relates to the historical layers of the city, asking how different ways of narrating its past might affect its future. Located at the intersection between the historical and the fictive, the biennial explores artistic practice as a method of critical historiography and change.
