In her films and performances, artist Nicoline van Harskamp addresses the function and power of the spoken word.
Her recent work 'Yours in Solidarity' investigates the contemporary history of anarchism through the archive of Dutch anarchist Karl Max Kreuger (1946-1999). By studying his extensive correspondence with fellow anarchists, van Harskamp, in collaboration with 60 actors, imagined what could happen if the correspondents were to meet today.
At Konstfack, van Harskamp will show a video registration of the film's initial working sessions. She prompts the actors – as they begin to identify with the anarchists in the archive – with truths, half-truths and hypotheses, deploying her artistic license to create a story for the film. 'Yours in Solidarity' was recently presented at Manifesta 9 and the Shanghai Biennale.
