One Day About: Mis/Seeing – On the Ethics of Art to Bear Witness

In this workshop the artist Mikhail Tolmachev will address the current conditions of mediation and the agency of images. The title "Mis/Seeing" refers to Sophie Dyer's conception of the need for care in seeing and witnessing.

How are current wars and crises affecting different artistic practices? How do we make atrocities from the past publicly sensible and ethical? How does this form of gaze to the past affect our understanding of the present?

The gaze poses ethical demands on the viewer. We will discuss artistic working methods with images of physical and psychological violence.
