Posthuman Entanglements: Reclaiming Female Subjectivity in the Skin of Nature?

Victoria Lucas’ installation-based artworks incorporate sculpture with video, photography, sound and performance. She uses technology and sculpture to remap, embody and entangle the material strata of landscapes, a process in which female subjectivity is reimagined and reclaimed in place. In this presentation, Lucas will talk about a small disused quarry and its inhabitants, situated in the North of England, which has become central to her PhD research and artistic practice over the past two years. More information can be found at victorialucas.co.uk.

Victoria Lucas (b.1982, UK) is an artist, part-time practice-led PhD candidate at Sheffield Hallam University and Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the University of Central Lancashire. She is currently a Platform20 resident at Site Gallery as part of the Freelands Artist Programme (2020 - 22), and recently completed an artist-in-residence at OSSO in São Gregório Portugal. In 2020 Lucas orchestrated a networked performance for the More Than Ponies Art and the Rural Imagination conference, and was commissioned to design the cover of Corridor8’s CHAINMAIL#4 Publication.
