Nordic Colonialism - Race and Visual Culture

In her work, Åsa Bharathi Larsson explores the ways in which a colonial culture, or universe, was established, circulated and given meaning through visual representations in Sweden at the turn of last century, broadening the view of colonial history and its postcolonial present.

Åsa Bharathi Larsson is a media and art historian; researcher and lecturer at the School of Culture and Education at Södertörns Högskola.

Open School is a series of lectures organized by the Visual Communication faculty. In the lectures we investigate visual communication in relation to broader social, cultural and economic contexts. With norm criticality as a take-off point, we go deeper in how identity, norms and borders are formed, and pick up questions and themes that is important to the development of the field.

The Open School lectures are part of the master program in Visual Communication and the evening course Ways of Seeing 1.

Open School is free and open to the public.
