Destabilising the Museum

Matt Smith will talk about his Victoria & Albert Residency and the exhibition "Flux: Parian Unpacked" at the Fitzwilliam Museum. The second part of the seminar will be a group discussion based on talk and papers.

Matt Smith is an artist and curator. He is interested in how cultural organisations and objects represent lived lives, using institutional critique and artist interventions. Solo exhibitions include Flux: Parian Unpacked at the Fitzwilliam (2018), Queering the Museum at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (2010-11) and Other Stories at the University of Leeds (2012). In 2016 he was Artist in Residence at the V&A and in 2010 co-founded Unravelled Arts, curating artist interventions at National Trust properties.

Smith studied Ceramics at the University of Westminster and holds a MA in Museum studies from the University of Leicester where he is an Honorary Visiting Fellow. He holds a PhD in Queer Craft from the University of Brighton and is Professor of Craft: Ceramics and Glass at Konstfack Stockholm.
