New technologies and the future of mankind
- a lecture with Pontus Strimling, Associate Professor, the Institute for Future Studies.

Followed by a a discussion, moderated by Simon Ceder, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Visual Arts and Sloyd Education.

What will the reasoning human – homo sapiens – become? In the strong spirit of individuality, we have promoted competition and selfishness at the expense of what evolutionary biological research has shown to be our most natural element – cooperation. Can more of this, together with genetic manipulation and/or artificial intelligence help us onto the right track to survive the challenges we face, or will we destroy ourselves? Despite a great deal of control, perhaps the human as a species has already begun to lose command of itself and its future. Are we to become small synapses linked via the internet; part of one large brain that in the future we will call “the world”?

During the autumn 2018 Friday Lectures series, we delve into our genetic depths, opportunities and threats of mankind, the pros and cons of democratic decision-making processes and more, in times when the systems, more often than we are aware of, rule our lives.
