Vernissage 17 March, at 4:00-6:00 pm

Welcome to the group show "Strömningar" (Currents) presented by Södertälje Konsthall in collaboration with Konstfack. Twelve students at the Department of Fine Art are presenting site specific works both indoor and outdoors within the public space of Södertälje between the 17th and 21st of March 2021.

The exhibition departs from the notions of Södertälje as a port town and investigates the social and material conditions of the city - the goods passing through the port, the canal as infrastructure for global and local chains of distribution, the consequences of the harbour strike in 2019, city planning, contemporary architecture, streams of people and multi-lingualism

The artistic practices have been on-going since October 2020 and during the time being the artists have developed their own questions in response to the city and its contexts. Through these different processes the artists have examined the methods and possibilities of public art and site specific practices. The result can be seen as an act of collective mapping of Södertälje, in relation to time, space and geography.

The exhibition includes everything from live-painting at Uthamnen and a performative reading at Kusens Backe, to photo and video installations as well as sculptures in the harbour, canal, in a bus stop and underneath Mälarbron.

The project has been organized and guided by Malin Arnell, Johanna Gustafsson Fürst, Loulou Cherinet, Henrik Andersson and Thomas Elovsson, artists teaching at Konstfack.

Participating artists:
