The Politics of Arabic Type Design.

Power. Politics. Identity. Typefaces embody the unspoken messages in our words, which is why it's more important than ever that there is plurality for the voices of the Arabic culture.

Nadine's lecture will argue that there's a place for both the classical and the modern lettering in the contemporary language and presents her exploration of Arabic type design through key projects and milestones.

More information

Open School is a series of lectures organized by the Visual Communication faculty. In the lectures we investigate visual communication in relation to broader social, cultural and economic contexts. With norm criticality as a take-off point, we go deeper in how identity, norms and borders are formed, and pick up questions and themes that is important to the development of the field.

The Open School lectures are part of the master program in Visual Communication and the evening course Ways of Seeing 1.

Open School is free and open to the public.
