Four doctoral positions announced in August 2025

Since 2022, Konstfack has been conducting postgraduate education in the subject of "Artistic Practice in Visual, Applied and Spatial Arts". The third-cycle studies are based upon the foundation of artistic practice established in Konstfack’s main fields of study: fine art, craft, design and visual communication. The doctoral education leads to a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Artistic Practice in Visual, Applied and Spatial Arts.

The four positions that will be announced 4–15 August have the following profiles

Craft: Glass
We invite applications from candidates with a strong artistic and socially engaged practice. We particularly welcome artistic research projects that advance the subject area by addressing the contemporary challenges of the field through critical and contextual explorations of glass. Combining workshop-based research with theoretical investigation is encouraged. We are particularly interested in projects that challenge and transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries.

Craft: Textile
We are seeking a candidate with a strong artistic practice - contemporary, current, and relevant - with an interest in conducting research on museum textile collections. We welcome artistic research projects that contribute to advancing the field by exploring, challenging, commenting on, and revitalizing textile collections. Combining workshop-based research with theoretical investigation is encouraged. We are particularly interested in projects that challenge and transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries.

The doctoral position is linked to the research environment Textile Heritage, lead by professor Maja Gunn. The doctoral candidate is expected to primarily research the textile collections of one or more of the museums involved in Textile Heritage project. We encourage you to indicate in your application which collections - and what in the collections - you would like to research and why. Parts of the collections are available at Digitaltmuseum.se.

Interior Architecture and Furniture Design: Interior Transformations
We are looking for a doctoral student who wants to highlight and explore design and formgiving issues linked to sustainable transformation through practice-based artistic research with a focus on interior architecture. In an exploratory, experimental, critical and reflective way, from interior perspectives, the issues about transformation and reuse can be examined on different scales and in various contexts. This may involve developing artistic methods and strategies to identify and make use of qualities in existing environments, where different aims and interests need to be balanced.

Fine Art: Artistic and Literary Writing, and Curatorial Practice
We seek a candidate that investigates the intersections of literary and artistic writing with curatorial practices, with expertise in international contemporary art. Situated within a dynamic academic and artistic environment, the project explores contemporary art, literary and artistic writing, critical discourse, interdisciplinary methodologies, and curatorial practices.

The ideal candidate will have a strong artistic and literary perspective, engaging deeply with contemporary art, aesthetics, and theoretical discourse. Their research should integrate creative writing, curatorial practice, material inquiries, and public programming, building institutional collaborations and cultural dialogue. Key themes may include the body, perception, aesthetic experience and cultural infrastructure
