Baubo was an old lady who exposed her vagina in an obscene dance provoking the mourning Goddess Demeter to laugh. Baubo is often portrayed with her face placed on top of an enlarged lower body. Arena Baubo is re-thinking representation in performance. The group has immersed in the discourse through workshops and seminars with theoreticians Paula Caspão, Akseli Virtanen and Tiina Rosenberg resulting in experimentative formats for discussions merged with post/non/mis/re/presentations of the Baubo myth.

The Art of Flashing - Baubo’s hijacking of Rancière
In the performance, Jacques Rancière’s lecture on Deleuze, art and aesthetics, is being hijacked. Baubo is infiltrating the philosopher´s text with her vaginal metamorphosis into the content, form and texture of its language.

Seminar: The Explicit Body in Performance
Rebecca Schneider’s analysis of the subversive potential of the explicit body, together with examples of artworks by among others Carolee Schneemann, Annie Sprinkle and Shigeko Kubota, work as points of departure for further discussion.

The Moving Mind – A Social choreography in the age of Permanently Temporary War
An experiment testing some of the theories Akseli Virtanen presented in his workshop has taken place on a train around Scandinavia.

This social choreography consists of four people on a journey, looking at each other and them selves, analyzing the precariat class around and within them and how the permanently temporary war of our times creates new representations and a wish not to represent or be represented.

A self-immolation for the female gender’s full emancipation and the final uprising of the women’s rights movement by waxing out the taboo of bodily hair.

Seminar: Who’s language? The concept of woman called into question
Many feminists argue that we ought to give up the notion of gender in favor of a multiplicity of identities. How could feminist movements continue a struggle to end women’s oppression if the meaningfulness of the concept ‘woman’ is called into doubt? Chantal Mouffe’s and Alessandra Tanesini’s thoughts on essentialist language and feminist strategies form the basis of this discussion.
