Ädellab/Metal
Konstfack offers a Bachelor program of three (3) years 120 credits (180 ECTS credits) and a Master's Group of two (2) years 80 credits (120 ECTS credits).
You can apply for the Master's Group after having taken an Bachelor degree or when they have reached equal qualifications in other ways.
The teaching is from time to time in English.
The main subject consists of Ädel laboratory work with deep investigation work concerning materials, techniques, symbolic, context etc. The source of knowledge is based on jewellery and silver smithing. The department works towards integration between Interdisciplinary studies, philosophy and art theory within the educational program.
The aim is to educate creative artists in the field of jewellery/silver smithing.
Students are expected to develop their capability of self-reflection, analyse, philosophy and a personal standpoint within the contemporary jewellery/corpus field.
The teaching within Ädellab/Metal Design is built on a step-by-step education in which the final product is not the most important goal.
The goal is the means and the means is the goal (M. Gandhi).
The emphasis lies on personal guidance and development. The students are given the tools with which to continue this process on their own. By means of direct action people learn to take steps.
Every year several guest teachers will be invited. These guest teachers are internationally well-known artists who will influence the program of Ädellab/Metal Department to keep its presence.
In consultation with instructors, the students are guided through the Bachelor program, given tools to develop their work in order to reach a self supporting analysing- and reflecting ability to come closer to the meaning of the pieces they make.
Students attending the Masters program are supposed to follow their own concept and process work.
