Talking Jewellery, 7,5 credits

The course Talking Jewellery investigates the phenomenon jewellery and its historical and social context. The aim of Talking Jewellery is to gain a deeper understanding of the language of objects based in an object's cultural context ant thereby enable the participants to sharpen their expression as artists.

Eligibility
Participants must be professional in the field of contemporary jewellery or students in the master program at Konstfack.

Intendend learning outcomes
Upon completing the course, the student is to:
- Demonstrate a profound investigative approach to jewellery theory
- Demonstrate a deepened insight into the complex relation between jewellery and the western society
- Actively participate i profound discussions about our field f practice
- Demonstrate self-responsibility for the working process
- Demonstrate the skillof time management within the given assignments
- Demonstrate an ability to relate their individual approaches to a contemporary as well as a historical context

Contents
The course Talking Jewellery investigates the phenomenon jewellery and its historical and social context. The aim of Talking Jewellery is to gain a deeper understanding of the language of objects based in an object's cultural context ant thereby enable the participants to sharpen their expression as artists.

The course runs over a period of nine weeks mainly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and the course should be considered equal to a half time study. All teaching and discussions are conducted in English.

Participants: Max. 20 participants

Examination
Course grades are pass or fall. The assessments of the student's abilities and work take place in seminar discussions and the students' indivudual presentations.

Language: All teaching and discussions are conducted in English.

Time of study
Time of study: week 13-23, 2013. Half time study

The course runs over a period of 9 weeks mainly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The course is built around a series of 8 seminars each focusing on a different aspect of the phenomenon jewellery. Each seminar consists of a lecture and group discussion. In the last 3 weeks of the course each participant will prepare a short lecture themselves about an individually chosen subject within the phenomenon jewellery.
